The Ancestral Square in the Matriz del Destino

The ancestral square is one of the lesser-known internal structures of your octagram, but it’s the foundation from which several of the positions that spark the most curiosity are derived: your masculine line, your feminine line, and, in part, your karmic tail.

What the ancestral square is

It’s a set of four points — located on the diagonals of the figure, between positions A, B, C, and D — calculated by combining pairs of central points with each other. Unlike your Point E or your personal purpose, which are usually read individually, the ancestral square functions as a unit: it describes patterns inherited from your family history, both the ones that repeat without you consciously choosing them and the resources you also inherited alongside them.

How it’s built

Each of the ancestral square’s four points is obtained by adding and reducing two adjacent points from your central matrix: one combines your day with your month, another your month with your year, another your year with your earthly mission (Point D), and the last closes the square by combining your earthly mission back with your day. The result is four arcana that, geometrically, occupy the diagonal corners of your octagram — between the cardinal points A, B, C, and D — literally forming a square within the figure. What it reveals about family patterns

The ancestral square is, in practice, the foundation from which other important positions in your matrix are derived: your masculine line and your feminine line — the energies inherited from the paternal and maternal figures in your family history — are built precisely from two of these four points, extended into chains of three arcana each. That’s why understanding your ancestral square as a set is what lets you see where your masculine and feminine lines come from, rather than reading them as isolated, disconnected data points.

How to read it in practice

Instead of looking for a single meaning for “the ancestral square” as if it were one arcana, the most useful reading is to compare the four points against each other: does any arcana repeat in more than one corner? Are the energies aligned or contrasting? When two or more points in the square share the same arcana, or arcana with a similar theme, it usually signals a particularly strong family pattern — for better or worse — that will likely also show up reflected in your karmic tail. In fact, the karmic tail is partly derived from this same ancestral square, which confirms that both positions are describing, from different angles, the same layer of your inherited history.
