How to Calculate Your Matriz del Destino Step by Step

The principle: reduce everything to a number between 1 and 22

The entire system rests on a single reduction rule: if a number is greater than 22, you add its digits until you reach a value between 1 and 22. For example, 27 reduces to 2 + 7 = 9. If the result is still greater than 22 — which happens rarely — you add its digits again. Each of these 22 possible values corresponds to one of the 22 major arcana of the tarot.

Step 1: calculate Point A (your day of birth)

Take your day of birth as it is. If it’s 22 or less, it stays the same. If it’s higher — say, if you were born on the 27th of any month — you reduce it: 2 + 7 = 9.

Step 2: calculate Point B (your month of birth)

This is used directly, with no reduction, since months run from 1 to 12 and always fall within the valid range.

Step 3: calculate Point C (your year of birth)

Add up all the digits of your year of birth and reduce the result the same way. For example, for 1994: 1 + 9 + 9 + 4 = 23, and 23 reduces to 2 + 3 = 5.

Step 4: calculate Point D (your earthly mission)

Add the three previous values — A + B + C — and reduce the result if necessary.

Step 5: calculate Point E (your comfort zone)

Add A + B + C + D and reduce the result. This is your central arcana, the one that appears at the heart of your octagram.

Worked example: May 15, 1990

• Point A (day): 15 → stays the same, 15.
• Point B (month): 5 → stays the same, 5.
• Point C (year): 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19 → stays the same, 19.
• Point D: 15 + 5 + 19 = 39 → reduces to 3 + 9 = 12.
• Point E: 15 + 5 + 19 + 12 = 51 → reduces to 5 + 1 = 6.

The central arcana for this date is 6 — The Lovers — which suggests a comfort zone tied to conscious choice, authentic connection, and the alignment of values.

Step 6: the ancestral square and the rest of the positions

From these five values (A, B, C, D, and E), the second square — the ancestral or diagonal square — is built by combining pairs of adjacent points. From there, using the same logic of addition and reduction, the rest of the positions in your matrix are derived: your karmic tail, your masculine and feminine lines, your money line, your chakras, and your four purposes (personal, social, general, and planetary).
